Our Lady of Consolation of the Afflicted Little Drops of Water

Consolatrix Afflictorium – Comforter of the Afflicted For about 400 years, the Virgin Mary has been venerated in Luxembourg as the Comforter of the Afflicted. In the midst of the Thirty Years' War, students from the College of the Society of Jesus in Luxembourg, together with Father Jacques Brocquart, placed a wooden image of the Virgin Mary in front of the city walls. Many pilgrims from all parts of the country and beyond its borders come to venerate this image and bring their worries, fears and prayers to it. In 1666, Maria was elected patron saint of the city and 12 years later patron saint of the country. Since the French Revolution, she has been in the cathedral as the patroness of the city and country.
