History
The village of Arruda dos Vinhos has been devoted to Santa Maria since ancient times. Oral tradition tells that King D Manuel and the royal family stayed in this village during an outbreak of the plague that occurred in Lisbon, in thanksgiving for the whole family being saved from the plague, he ordered the rebuilding of the temple and offered this image that we know today by Our Lady of Salvation. The inhabitants of this village, their descendants and neighbors have a great devotion to the miraculous Virgin Mary. A great annual feast is dedicated to her, which dates back more than 500 years and is regularly worshiped, as she is the Mother of Jesus. His feast day is the 15th of August.
