History
Margaret was born in 275 in Pisidian Antioch. She was motherless and her father was a pagan priest. Margaret went to live with a Catholic nurse in Asia Minor (today's Turkey) and, little by little, she embraced the Christian faith and decided to dedicate her life to God. One day, Governor Olybrius saw Margarida tending the sheep and, enchanted by her beauty, proposed marriage on condition that she renounced Christianity. But Margaret loved God and did not abandon her Christian faith, and as such she was tortured and martyred. Legend has it that while Margarida was in prison, Satan turned into a dragon and swallowed her, but she managed to get out of her womb with a crucifix in her hand. Margaret died when she was still very young. She belongs to the group of fourteen auxiliary saints, honored annually on August 8, and is one of the saints who appeared to Joan of Arc. Her feast day is July 20th, and she is the patron saint of pregnant women.

Returns
