History
Vincent de Paul was born in 1581 in Pouy, France. When he was 19 Vincent de Paul was ordained a priest, and four years later he finished his theological studies. From an early age, Vicente de Paulo was confronted with the harsh reality in which the poorest and neediest people lived, and he decided to dedicate himself to them heart and soul. In 1617 he founded the Confraternity of the Ladies of Charity to address the needs of the poorest, and in 1925 he created the Confraternity of the Mission to evangelize the peasants. He ordered the construction of hospitals to treat those condemned to the Galeras. And in 1633, with the help of Louise de Marillac, he founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Charity. Today there are more than 18,000 Sisters in 94 countries who support the poorest populations, and more than 4,000 Vincentians in 86 countries. There are two miracles associated with Vincent de Paul: a nun who was healed of ulcers and a lay woman who was healed of paralysis. Vincent de Paul was beatified by Pope Benedict XIII in 1720, and canonized by Pope Clement XII in 1737. He was also declared patron of all Charitable Works of the Catholic Church by Pope Leo XIII in 1885. Item 18331 His feast day it's September 27th.
