History
Father Francisco Rodrigues da Cruz was born in 1859 in Alcochete, Portugal. He dedicated his life to helping prisoners, the sick, the poor, the abandoned and sinners. He became a Jesuit in 1940, when he was 81 years old, fulfilling a lifelong desire. Three years after his death, in 1951, the request for his canonization began in Lisbon, and in 1965 he was handed over to the Sacred Congregation of Rites, in Rome, where he is still under analysis. Every year, thousands of faithful pay homage to Padre Cruz, in the Jesuit tomb in the Benfica Cemetery, where his mortal remains remain.
