History
“Santa Beatriz da Silva was born in Campo Maior, in 1436, being the daughter of the chief mayor of the village and advisor to the king. In 1447, D. Isabel, daughter of Infanta Isabel, marries D. João II, king of Castile and León, and Beatriz accompanies her as a maid. In a few years she was considered one of the most beautiful and beautiful maidens of the Castilian court. He receives many marriage proposals from members of the court, but refuses them and takes a vow of virginity. Queen Isabel begins to feel jealous of Beatriz and locks her up in a safe. There he has a vision of Nossa Senhora da Conceição who asks him to found an Order in her honor.
After this event, around 1451, Beatriz leaves court and goes to Toledo. In this city, he remained as a layman for about 30 years, at the Monastery of S. Domingos, the Real, where he dedicated himself to a life of prayer, penance and charity. In 1484, he began the foundation of the Order of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
Santa Beatriz died in Toledo, at the Monastery of Conceição, on August 9, 1491. Her beatification took place on July 26, 1926 and her canonization on October 3, 1976.”
