History
George was a soldier who belonged to the Roman army of Emperor Diocletian. In the year 303, the emperor ordered the arrest of all Christian soldiers and ordered all others to offer sacrifices to the Roman gods. Jorge announced that he was a Christian. The Emperor, who was very close to George, tried to get him to give up his Christian beliefs, but George remained faithful to Christianity. The emperor had George killed on April 23, 303. George became a martyr. There is also a legend that says that Jorge promised to fight a very dangerous dragon and save the king's daughter on condition that the people convert to Christianity. Jorge saved the girl and all the people in the kingdom became Christians. The feast day of São Jorge is April 23rd.
