History
Lucas was born in the city of Antioch of Syria, present-day Turkey. He did not personally know Jesus but he was a disciple of São Paulo. Saint Luke wrote the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. It was the Evangelist who most related the mysteries linked to the Blessed Virgin Mary: the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel, the Visitation to cousin Saint Elizabeth, the Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Saint Luke is represented with a bull because he begins the Gospel talking about the sacrifice of the priest Zechariah in the temple where the oxen were sacrificed, in Jewish rituals. Saint Luke is the patron saint of doctors, painters and artists. His feast day is October 18th.
