History
João Marcos was born in Jerusalem and belonged to a Christian family. When he was a child, many Christians would gather at his home, and that's where he met Jesus and the apostles. He was a disciple of Saint Peter and wrote the second Gospel of the New Testament. The Gospel according to Saint Mark was written at the request of many believers who wanted to know more about the life of Jesus. The symbol of Saint Mark is a lion because his Gospel begins by talking about John the Baptist who became known as “the voice that cries out in the desert” and, like the roar of a lion, it is strong and imposing. Saint Mark died between the years 68 and 72, and his relics are in the Cathedral of Saint Mark in Venice, Italy. His feast day is April 25th.
