History
Jesus had twelve apostles. His apostles were his best friends. On the eve of His dying for our sins, Jesus celebrated Passover with the apostles. Passover is a Jewish holiday that reminds the Jewish people of the Israelite escape from slavery in Egypt. During dinner, Jesus took bread, broke it, gave thanks and said: "Take, all of you, and eat. This is my body". Then, Jesus took the wine, gave thanks and said: "Take, all of you, and drink. This is my blood". The apostles ate the bread and drank the wine as Jesus told them to. This was the miracle of the first Eucharist. We can participate in this miracle every Sunday when we receive the Eucharist at Mass! When we receive the Eucharist, we are receiving the body and blood of Jesus. That way, we can always remember Jesus and the sacrifice he made for us. When we receive the Eucharist, we receive grace, which is a part of God's life. It helps us to be better people. The word "Eucharist" means thanksgiving. How can we show Jesus that we are grateful for the Eucharist?
